With the support of our strategic partners Canterbury Grasslands and Manawa Energy, the Hororata Community Trust has organised a GoodYarn workshop for our community.

The ‘GoodYarn’ workshop has been designed to deliver practical mental health and wellbeing resources specifically for the workplace or community.

The programme is based on the premise that the first step in addressing mental health and wellbeing is being able to talk about it. The goal is to remove the stigma around mental health and enhance participants’ understanding of mental health and the benefits of taking a proactive approach to mental wellbeing.

The programme has three key aims and evaluation indicators:

  1. Increase awareness of signs and symptoms of common mental illnesses.
  2. Build confidence in starting a conversation with someone about mental health.
  3. Improve knowledge of where and how to get help.

Think of this as a first aid course but focused on mental health. The Trust feels it is important to enable people in our rural community to talk openly about mental health and know where to get support when needed. A facilitator from Synergy Health will run the workshop.

Thanks to Grasslands and Manawa, attending this workshop is free. Open to anyone living or working in the Hororata Community Trust area – Hororata, Coalgate, Glentunnel, Whiteclifs, Glenroy, Windwhiste and Lake Coleridge.

Date: Thursday 23rd May 2024

Time: 9am – 12pm (morning tea provided)

Location: Hororata Fire Station

The workshop is limited to 25 people. If you are interested, please RSVP to cindy@hororata.org.nz as soon as possible.
