On Saturday 11th November 2023 at the Hororata Highland Games strangers joined hands in a massed Scottish Country Dance to celebrate 100 years of the Royal Scottish Country Dancing Society.

The dance was specially choreographed for the Hororata Highland Games by Graeme Plank a RSCDS qualified tutor. He based the dance around the disciplines the athletes compete in at the Highland Games.

In the lead-up to the Hororata Highland Games, Breakfast announcers, Fitzy and Hilary from The Breeze radio station learned the dance and shared an instructional video. They lead the dance on the day.

The Hororata Highland Games, held in a small rural town in Canterbury New Zealand, is one of the biggest Scottish festivals in the southern hemisphere held annually each November. With over 9000 people attending this Scottish Country dance was a moment of shared fun in the centre arena.
