The Hororata GLOW Festival is all go for Saturday 13th May 2023! Hororata Domain 3pm – 8pm

You are invited to GLOW with our community.

The Hororata Glow Festival is a spectacular event brought to you by the Hororata Community Trust and Ballooning Canterbury.

A registered Charity, Hororata Community Trust is all about helping this rural community grow and achieve its goals.

Ballooning Canterbury is a commercial hot-air ballooning company operating from Hororata. They offer people from all around the world the ultimate scenic adventure.

Together with 130 volunteers, they make the Hororata Glow Festival happen.

All profits from the event are invested back into the community. The festival also provides an opportunity for many community groups to fundraise for their own causes.

This festival is all about giving people a positive experience, that boost we all need going into winter. We want everyone to GLOW!

The hot air balloon Night Glow will light up the sky. Be amazed as these giant balloons glow in unison to music*. Prior to the Night Glow performance, people will be able to walk inside a giant cold inflated hot air balloon as well as interact with the balloon crews.

Surrounding the hot air balloons will be a magical festival where everything will GLOW!

The Hororata Glow Festival will host the best of Selwyn food and wine, attractions, and activities. As well as offering a cultural feast with 40 different food vendors.

*Please note the balloons do not leave the ground at any point during the event.

To manage crowd size there will be no gate sales with all tickets to be sold prior to the event online or at selected locations. This will ensure there is plenty of space and food vendors for everyone to have an enjoyable event.

Plenty of free on-site parking, with an expert crew of volunteers to make getting in and out of the event smooth. We recommend carpooling as this reduces traffic congestion.

Self-Contained motorhomes are welcome to park overnight, $10 per night per site.

Hororata Domain, 61 Hororata Road.

Only 60 minutes from Christchurch airport or Rangiora, 45 minutes from Rolleston, 45 minutes from Ashburton. Allow extra time as traffic will be heavy.

We recommend if you are coming from Christchurch direction to come through Darfield, not up Bealey Rd. This will ensure traffic is split between the two roads and hopefully avoids any major traffic jams.

Sunday 14th May.

  • If the weather is not favourable on Saturday 13th of May, the event will be postponed to Sunday 14th of May. This may be due to wind or other weather that affects the balloon’s performance.

The balloons will not leave the ground at any point during the performance.
