Steventon Open House and Garden
Visit Steventon on the Saturday 23rd of November to view the heritage garden and homestead.
Steventon was purchased by the McArthur family in 1964 and has been in continuous ownership since then, making this year its 60th anniversary. To celebrate, we are holding our first open day since extensive renovations to the house in 2018 and ongoing restoration work on the outbuildings, gardens, and beyond.
Three rooms of the house will be open, with displays of period clothing and copies of many of Lady Barker’s books. Brief history talks and readings about the station by Lady Barker will be happening at regular times, which will be posted on sign boards on the day.
A media display of images from the late 1800s to more modern times will run continuously in the restored Grain Shed.
Bring a picnic and choose a spot to have lunch, or indulge in a fine selection of savoury and sweet treats from the pop-up café on the Drying Green.
We would love to hear from anyone with connections to Steventon, workers and visitors, etc or their descendants. Any old stories from the early days or photos we could add to the records would be much appreciated. Email steventon@xtra.co.nz
