Community Invitation – Go Hororata Triennial Meeting
Go Hororata is the official residents’ committee for the Hororata area, recognised by the Selwyn District Council. It includes representatives from nine local groups and five elected community members. The committee is guided by five key purposes:
-
To be a recognised stakeholder of the Selwyn District Council, providing a vital link between the community and Council.
-
To present a united voice, ensuring our community has influence on local projects, activities, services, and maintenance.
-
To develop a facility that meets the current and future needs of the community.
-
To protect and promote our district’s heritage.
-
To enhance the Hororata Domain by supporting current recreation and sports, encouraging greater participation, and creating opportunities for new activities.
Over the past three years, Go Hororata has achieved significant milestones:
-
Developed the Domain Master Plan and supported its implementation
-
Partnered with the Hororata Community Trust to return the Hall to community ownership
-
Funded and installed security cameras in the village
-
Maintained ongoing communication with Council on village and domain matters
-
Advocated on behalf of the community
-
Brought locals together through community dinners
Triennial Meeting Information
The Triennial Meeting is held every three years to form the Go Hororata committee. Each local group must pre-nominate their representative for confirmation at the meeting. Five community representatives will be nominated and voted on from the floor. Anyone living in the greater Hororata area (see below map) is welcome to stand.
Representatives must:
– Live in the greater Hororata area
– Be committed to making Hororata a great place to live, work, and play
– Attend six meetings per year (bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of the month at Hororata Hall)
All residents are welcome to attend meetings and contribute to discussions. Please note, however, that only official representatives can vote when needed.

Please note: Go Hororata is a stand-alone committee. While the Hororata Community Trust provides administrative support, it does not govern the committee. The Trust is responsible for the Hall and events such as the Highland Games and Glow Festival. The Trust often asks for the committee’s input and guidance.
