The special Glentunnel bike track was constructed in 2006 as a clay-based mountain bike track weaved through eucalyptus trees. It was severely damaged on Friday 10 September 2021 when 16 trees were uprooted from the 160kph winds and caused irreparable damage to the bike track course.

The bike track is located on Glentunnel school land adjacent to the Glentunnel Domain. This Domain is the central sports ground for Glentennel, Whitecliffs, Coalgate, Hororata, Windwhistle and Lake Coleridge residents, it also neighbours the Glentunnel campground.

The vision for the new bike track is: To create a place of connection where all generations of people can come together in a safe environment to exercise and learn bike skills which adds to the overall hauora (wellbeing) of our community.

The Design and Construction: the bike track, for all wheels eg: bikes, scooter etc, has a total area of 55m x 36m (1,980m2) and will include a mix of asphalt, natural and wooden elements with native planting throughout to create interest, shade and to help divide the areas.

Costs: The total cost of this project is $86,000.00. The school and community have already raised $40,000 towards this project.

Timing: The aim is to begin to build the bike track in November 2023.
